Calvin DeWayne Yates Sr.

Calvin DeWayne Yates, Sr. was born in Indianapolis to Benjamin F. Yates and Joyce Garrett on September 1, 1959. Calvin attended IPS schools in his early years and later attended John Marshall High School. He joined the U.S. Army shortly thereafter and was honorably discharged at the completion of his stint. After the Army Calvin worked for many years in construction. At the time of his death Calvin was working for Goodwill services in South Bend. Calvin was preceded in death by his parents Benjamin F. and Joyce Garrett Yates, two brothers Benjamin and Jeffery Yates, and granddaughter Rayuanna Yates. Calvin is survived by son and daughter Calvin DeWayne Jr. and Rita Latonya Yates, brothers Michael Young (Pamela), Mark Yates (Jackie), and Danny Yates (Lola); sisters Sharon Vinson (Karl) and Donna Yates (Sheldon), grandsons DeMonte, Calvin III, and Lucas Stewart, and DaKobe Drain, granddaughters Jordan and Makaila Yates, and Journie Drain. Calvin legacy includes 6 great grandkids and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Calvin professed his faith in Christ as a young man and died as a saved Christian after a short battle with Cancer. He made his transition on Tuesday, February 28th at 63.
