Betty D. Givens, Indianapolis, passed on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 after having recently relocated back to Indiana from California.
Betty is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, David W. Givens, Sr.; her devoted children, Kathy Stephany and David W, Givens, Jr.; her granddaughter, Rachel Allen; and beloved great-grandchildren, Arden and Laela Reynolds.
Betty was dedicated to her family and very active in her community. She served on the Board of Directors for the Indianapolis Zoo. She served on the Board of Directors for the Indianapolis Museum of Art, where she was a longtime Docent. Betty was also a longtime volunteer and second Chairperson of the Haunted House at the Indianapolis Children’s Museum.
Betty's appreciation for the fine arts led her to co-found the former Indianapolis Arts & Antiques Show through the Methodist Hospital Task Corp. She also spent many hours over the years volunteering for the Indianapolis Children’s Bureau.
Betty earned her degree in education from DePauw University and taught briefly in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
She then went on to teach for several years for the Washington Township Schools in Indianapolis, IN.
Memorial contributions are suggested in Betty’s name to the Indianapolis Zoo, to the Morehead-Givens Scholarship Fund at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, or to the David & Betty Givens Scholarship Fund at Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana. Private services will be held.
