Barbara J. Frye

Barbara J. Frye, age 82, of Highland, Indiana passed away on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, with her son David Frye, daughter Deena Frye, niece Laurie Greear, and great nephew David Greear by her side. Barbara was born November 9, 1939 at 11:30PM to John and Zoa Goodlander. She is survived by her son David (Jadranka) Frye; daughter Deena Frye; granddaughter Lidia Frye; grandson Hayden Frye; and numerous nieces and nephews. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Tony Frye; parents John and Zoa (nee George) Goodlander; two brothers: Gerald (nee Lucile) Goodlander and Robert (nee Gail) Goodlander; three sisters: Vera (nee George) Mattox, Betty (nee Earl) Burton, and Joan (nee Steve) Manich; and numerous pet cats. Barbara graduated from Hammond High School in 1958. She studied at Valparaiso University and Indiana University, graduating with a degree in Education. On January 27, 1962 she married Tony Frye. She lived in California during Tony's service in the army, returning to the region and settling in Highland, IN in 1968 where she remained until her passing. Barbara taught at Morton elementary school for 5 years. Barbara enjoyed reading, writing, and watching classic old movies. She was an avid lover of cats. She and Tony raised Siamese cats and she continued to adopt cats for 60 years of her adult life. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at 12 Noon with Chaplain Rob Dorow officiating at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Rd (two blocks south of Ridge Rd) Highland IN. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday morning December 29, 2021 from 10:00 AM till 12 Noon (time of services) at the funeral home.
