Nécrologie de Frederick Carney Worthington
Frederick Carney Worthington, Jr. passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 2, 2022. He was born and raised on a farm in Lenoir county, North Carolina. As a young man, Fred served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged after 5 years. He was proud of his service and had a patriotic spirit. Fred settled in Hampton, Virginia where he met his wife, Minnie “Joanne” Melson. Together they raised two children Carl and Diana. Fred was a fiercely independent man who lived life on his own terms and never once considered retirement as an option. In the early years he was a firefighter and often worked two jobs to provide for his family. As a local business owner for more than 50 years he was well known in the arts and crafts industry. Most recently he operated Hampton Roads Wholesalers where he spent much of his time delivering art supplies and talking with local artists. Fred also had a strong faith in God and was a member of the Fox Hill First United Methodist Church for many years. As a generous soul he gave back to his community, committed to helping anyone in need. He is predeceased by his wife, Minnie J. “Joanne” Worthington, and son Carl Flowers. He is survived by his daughter, Diana Worthington Clark, and her husband Lee; grandsons Justin and Joshua Worthington Clark; his sisters Sue Tuton and Catherine Cousins; and several nieces and nephews. A Visitation will be held at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home Chapel at 1:00 pm on Thursday, December 8th, 2022, followed by Memorial Service at 2:00 PM, and interment to follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Children’s Hospital of The Kings Daughter or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
