James Richard Williams, 83, of Greencastle, passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2023 at his residence. Born April 23, 1940 in Terre Haute, the son of Earl and Lois (Hill) Williams. He was a graduate of Reelsville High School “Class of 1958”. Jim was a lifelong farmer and a fifty year breeder of Angus Cattle. He worked as a meat cutter for Kroger for 22 years and had previously worked at Marsh Supermarket and Gardner’s Market. He also owned the Butcher’s Block. He was a member of the American Angus Association and a past President and member of the Jaycees, helping to build the Jaycee Park. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Robert, William, and Larry Williams. Jim is survived by his wife, Maxine (Herriott) Williams, sons, Gerald “Gary” L. (Stacy) Williams and Brian P. (Kristine) Williams; a brother, Joseph (Linda) Williams; four grandchildren Alexis, Elijah, Parker, and Rachel. A Memorial friends and family gathering will be held at the Greencastle Presbyterian Church 653 S. Co Rd 100 E. Greencastle on Saturday, August 26, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The family will have private graveside services at the Boone-Hutcheson Cemetery with Rev Wes Kendall presiding. Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Jim to the Putnam County Fairgrounds Endowment Fund c/o the Putnam County Community Foundation 2 S. Jackson St. Greencastle, IN. 46135.
