Betty Jean Killion, 92, of Greencastle passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at Putnam County Hospital.
Born on September 28, 1924 in Brazil, Indiana to Elmer and Luella Lawson. She was a graduate of Brazil high School class of 1942 and attended Indiana State University.
She married William F. Killion on June 29, 1944. He preceded her in death on February 29, 2011. Betty also had 8 brothers and sisters, six of whom preceded her in death.
Betty was a member of Big Walnut Baptist Church, and also attended First Christian Church in Greencastle. She was also a member of the History Club in Greencastle. Betty worked at Link Belt in Indianapolis during World War II. After the War and after rearing her six children, she worked as a librarian for 6 years at the Reelsville Elementary School.
Betty was an accomplished author with several children’s books published, including “The Same Wind,” “Think of It,” “Apartment House Tree,” “Princess Rosie’s Rainbows” and “Little Lek Learns to Sleep.” She also wrote for several publications over the years including such magazines as Ranger Rick, Wee Wisdom, Children’s Playmate, Highlights For Children, the Cricket Group and others. Betty was an avid reader with a love of books that started well before her 2nd birthday when her Grandfather, George Washington Clark, read to her.
She is survived by six children, Nancy McCullough, and husband Jack, Brazil, Tom Killion and Wife, Carla, of Indianapolis, Sally Paris, and husband, Michael, Dallas, Texas, Laura Mcullough and husband, Dan, Valley View, Texas, Rod Killion, Indianapolis, and Beth Flint and husband, Jeff, Greencastle.
She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Jeff McCullough (Tara), Michael McCullough, Amy Huber (Daren), Adele Head (Steve), Joseph Killion (Kristin), Brad Killion, Andrew McCullough (Shauna), Miriam Yocum (Josh), Ryan McCullough (May), Megan Flint, Kristen Flint (fiancé' Brett), and Adrian Petrea; 27 great grandchildren, a sister, Minnetta Huber, Jefferson, Indiana and a brother, Glenn Lawson of Brazil.
Services will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday, September 3, 2017, at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home with Pastor Darin Huber officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, Brazil, Indiana. Friends may call at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2017, or one hour prior to time of service on Sunday.
Memorials in Betty’s name may be made to the Putnam County Public Library for Children’s Services.
