Rita Virginia Martin

Rita Virginia Martin of Front Royal, Virginia passed away at the age of 86 on Monday, July 27, 2015. Rita was born in Markham, Virginia on January 8, 1929. In her early years she enjoyed caring for numerous foster children and was a devoted wife and mother. For over 35 years Rita excelled as an Avon representative and enjoyed working with and getting to know new people. She also enjoyed cooking and swapping recipes and was a fan of Elvis Presley and Patsy Cline. As she grew older she enjoyed being outdoors watching and feeding birds, crocheting hats for infants, and most of all spending time with her friends and family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Oscar B. Heflin, Sr. and Mary Kathleen (Gordon Heflin) Vance; her husband, Charles Donald Martin, her son, Donald Lee Martin; and brothers, Oscar (Jr), Larry, and Charles Heflin. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Piercefield and her husband, Michael and their children Patrick Piercefield and Anastasia Beville; her son Charles Michael Martin and his daughters Ashley Martin and Michelle Martin; her brother Robert Heflin and his wife, Mable and their children Janice Price, Kathy (Heflin) Jones, and Robert Heflin; granddaughters Stephanie Tharpe and Jo Anne Nicewarner; and 4 great grandchildren that brought her immense joy. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 6, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 5, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A small reception for family and friends will be held at the American Legion Post 53 (where Rita was a long time member of the Auxiliary) following the Thursday service.Memorial contributions may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W.
