Ruth Ann Braun

After a difficult battle with cancer, Ruth Ann Braun of Fort Wayne, Indiana passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2024. Ruth, hard-working and dedicated mother of four, was born on February 6, 1947, to Clarence and Madeline Heimann in Decatur, Indiana. While working full time for United Telephone and raising her children, she went back to school to finish her degree in English Literature. Reading was her passion, especially the classics. She was a member of the same book club for over 25 years. After retiring, Ruth had more time to participate in community programs such as yoga and tai chi. Ruth was a season ticket holder for the Fort Wayne Philharmonic and a champion of the arts. Ruth’s greatest pride was her six grandchildren. From trips to the zoo and the Chicago Institute of Art to baking cookies and playing games at home, her grandkids were her favorite people in the world. Sporting events, school musicals, orchestra concerts, or just sitting on the couch watching video games, she was there to cheer on her grandchildren. Ruth was quiet, but not shy. She was an excellent listener. She was intelligent, witty, and full of integrity. She was generous and donated to many causes within Fort Wayne. She loved music and attended many concerts. Ruth also loved going to dinner and spending time with her longtime companion, Carlos Bradley. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Madeline Heimann, her sisters, Rita Heimann and Norma (Dick) Stimpson. She is survived by her brother, David (Janet) Heimann, her sister Mary Louise (Jack) Baxter, her four children, Mark Braun, Jana (Josh) Cable, Stephanie Dale, Kim (Jeremy) Selzer and her six grandchildren, Bella and Henry Cable, Max and Josie Dale, Penn and Nash Selzer. Memorial contributions in Ruth's honor may be given to the Allen County Public Library or Fort Wayne Philharmonic. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 6750 Covington Road, Fort Wayne.
