Richard A. Downey, 77, passed away unexpectedly, October 15, 2024 in Fort Wayne. Richard was born March 3, 1943, to Eloise Beery and Charles L. Downey in Bluffton, Indiana. His early education began in East Allen County Schools. Later he attended Indiana University and graduated with an M.S. in Business. Rick loved photography and had a large collection of antique cameras. He provided photos for the Journal Gazette newspaper for several years. Rick is survived by his brother, Charles H Downy of Fort Wayne, and two nephews, David Downey of Kalamazoo, Michigan and Charles T. Downey of Washington, D.C. Rick’s friends and family have appreciated his love and support for many years and have always enjoyed his dry sense of humor, W.C. Fields quotations, and colorful storytelling. Rick and his brother, Charles, learned to hunt and fish together and spent many hours in the woods near their boyhood home in Fort Wayne. Eventually they became members of the Southwest Conservation Club in Waynedale. Richard was preceded in death by his father and mother, for whom he was the caregiver for many years. His family will have a celebration of life ceremony in his memory at 11:00 am, Friday, November 15, 2024 at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 6750 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46804. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
