Lois Lucille Turner
August 25, 1931 - January 19, 2023
Lois L. Turner passed in the comfort of her earthly home, also home of John and Kay Smith, in Fort Wayne, Indiana and entered her heavenly home with Jesus, her Savior and Lord, on January 19, 2023. She was born to Lucinda and Herold Heim August 25, 1931, in Bluffton, Indiana.
Lois was preceded in death by her first husband of 44 years, Robert Mettert; second husband of 3 years, Robert Turner; son, Daniel (Danny) Mettert; brothers, Herbert Heim, George Heim, Elmer Heim, Dean Heim, and Jack Heim; and granddaughter, Angela Mettert. Surviving family includes daughters, Jean (Jeanne) Halvorson (Richard) Sahuarita, Arizona and Kay Lynn Smith (John) Fort Wayne, Indiana; 11 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and other loved ones.
Lois always wore a sweet smile and loved everyone with her whole heart. She became “Grandma Lois” to even unrelated friends. Her humility, kindness, and giving spirit was only outweighed by her love and loyalty to her Lord, Jesus Christ. She loved God’s word; her favorite scripture was Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.”
Outside the home, Lois worked the longest for I.T.T. Corporation, Fort Wayne , Indiana and retired in 1981. Inside the home, for much of her life, she took care of her family by being a good mom, wife, and cook. Most days, you could find her making wonderful meals, including her famous fried bluegill fish, homemade bread, and pies. Her lemon meringue pie couldn’t be beat.
Lois loves to travel and took many family road trips all over the U.S., including Alaska. She went on several trips with her daughter’s gospel singing group and so loved the fellowship with other Christians. Many summers, she filled her van with children to take to Christian Youth Camp. She also enjoyed several cruises. She loved playing games, putting together puzzles, and creating beautiful objects from plastic canvas and yarn.
Lois will be greatly missed, but we also rejoice with her as she experiences her new life of complete peace and joy with no more suffering. Those who know Jesus say, “See you later.”
