Leah S. Tourkow, 91, died Mon. June 16, 2014 at her residence. Born in Ft. Wayne Leah was the daughter of Jacob Schwartz and Esther Kretzman Schwartz. Survived by son; Josh (Donna) Tourkow and daughter Deborah Sheray both of Fort Wayne also six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Frederick, son Ralph, and brother Ralph Schwartz. Leah was a member of B’nai Jacob Synagogue. She was on the Board of Directors of Hospitality House International, Board of Directors and helped founded W.B.N.I. public radio, Board of Directors Three Rivers Festival for 25 years and past President, Board of Directors of B’Nai Jacob Synagogue. President of the Jazz Club for many years she was a jazz host on W.B.N.I. public radio and talk show host on W.G.L radio for many years. Leah put together shows for returning W.W.II. and Korean War veterans. She also had a jazz radio show on the V.A. radio station. She was past president of the Jewish War Veterans Auxillary and was an incessant writer of letters to the editor. Funeral services will be held Thursday 4 P.M. June 19, 2014 at Jewish Cemetery Old Decatur Rd. with Rabbi Mitchell Kornspan officiating. Preferred Memorials may be made to B’Nai Jacob Synagogue.
