CHERYL A. "CHERI" BRAINERD, 67, passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2012, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Fort Wayne, she graduated from North Side High School, and retired from Raytheon Corporation. She was an active member of Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, Christ Renews His Parish, and the Rosary Society. She especially enjoyed spending time at the lake, time with family and friends, Christmas, and needle crafting. "Cheri truly loved her family and friends and always put the needs of others before her own. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her." Surviving are her loving husband, James R. Brainerd; daughters, Suzanne (Brian) Lange and Mary (Phil) Brainerd, both of Fort Wayne; son, Rob (Kelly) Brainerd of Minneapolis, Minn.; grandchildren, Lindsey, Zachary, Shelby, Carson, and Jessica; and her beloved sister and best friend, Diane (Larry) Kocon. She was preceded in death by her mother, Dolores; and father, Calvin Altekruse. Service is 10 a.m. Saturday at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, with calling one hour prior. Calling also from from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Sloan and Sons Funeral Home, with rosary service at 4 p.m. Preferred memorials to Most Precious Blood Catholic Church or School or Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home.
