Bobbie E. Warner, 94, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, August 19, 2019. He was born on June 27, 1925 in South Whitley, IN, the son of the late Harold and Marjorie Warner.
Bob began work at the age of 10, distributing Journal Gazette papers across South Whitley, IN for the next six years. He worked for the New York, Chicago, and St. Louis Railroad, then known as the Nickel Plate Railroad for 16 years. He retired as Superintendent from the Waste Water Treatment Plant in 1987 after 26 years.
Bob's greatest passion was his family and community. Each year, he and his wife Marian reunited their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren at locations across the country. For many years, the family met during the Thanksgiving holiday at the Oglebay Resort in Wheeling, WV. In 1995 and 2005, Bob and Marian took their growing family on Caribbean cruises, visiting Jamaica, Mexico and Haiti. Eventually, the family reunion switched to the July 4 break, meeting in Pennsylvania, Ohio and other locales. For the past several years, including this immediate past Independence Day, all 42 of Bob's family members met in Fort Wayne, IN. Bob was a very active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Fort Wayne for nearly 75 years. All of his children were baptized and married at Trinity. He was instrumental in the forming of boys' middle school and high school basketball leagues, as well as men church softball leagues. He was an active participant in Habitat for Humanity of Greater Fort Wayne, acting as co-chair of the United Methodist Habitat for Humanity Task Force. Bob was a 50 year Past Master of the Sol D. Bayless Freemasons Lodge, No. 359, where he served as Master two times, om 1969 and again in 2008. Since 2015, Bob resided at the Saint Anne Home & Retirement Community in Fort Wayne. Bob's family extends their heartfelt thanks and appreciate to Saint Anne's staff and residents for their love, and support, as well as to Heart to Heart Hospice in Fort Wayne, who provided aid and comfort to Bob and his family in the final days until Bob's passing.
Visitation will be at Trinity United Methodist Church, 609 Putnam St., Fort Wayne, IN of Saturday, August 31 from 4-7 pm and on Sunday, September 1 from 1-2 pm. Funeral service will be held at 2 pm immediately after Sunday visitation. A fellowship hour will follow the service. The family will attend a private committal service at Covington Memorial Gardens, where Bob will be laid to rest beside the love of his life, Marian.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Habitat For Humanity of Greater Fort Wayne or Heart to Heart Hospice.
