Obituary Theresa L. DeFore Theresa Lynn DeFore, 51, of Arlington, VA lost her long and courageous battle to Ovarian Cancer at home on May 30, 2012. Her parents, Marvin B, and Mary C. DeFore predecease Theresa. She is survived by her three sisters, Priscilla Stapula (Dan) of Lorton, VA, Juli Schull (Terry) of Alex, VA and Mary Kelly Nordquist (Ted) Palm Harbor, FL, eight nieces and nephews; Heather Wyatt, Mary Alexandra Grotos, Michael Wyatt, Elizabeth and Gabriella Stapula, Davis DeFore, Jack and Jimmy Schull, Five Godchildren; Matthew, Chad, Theresa, Elizabeth , and Jack. She also leaves extended family, and amazing friends. Theresa was born on September 14, 1960 in Atlanta, GA. Her parents moved to VA in 1968. She spent her grade school years at St. Louis Catholic School in Alexandria. In 1973, the family moved to Germany, where Theresa graduated from Bremerhaven American High School. She attended VA Tech and graduated with a BS in Civil Engineering. Her career began with Federal Highway Administration in Arlington, VA, followed by employment with Dewberry and Davis, Sverdrup Corporation/Jacobs, and finally the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). At VDOT she served as the Project Manager for the Beltway HOT Lanes until her diagnosis with cancer. She served as the President of the American Society of Highway Engineers Potomac Chapter. Theresa also taught religious education and worked in the religious education office at St James. Theresa was also an avid gardener and quilter. She was a member of the Falls Church Chapter of Quilters Unlimited, Quarterly Quilters in Alexandria and most recently Sister’s Choice Quilters in Falls Church. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Sunday June 3nd from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at National Funeral Home 7482 Lee Highway Falls Church, VA 22042. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. on Monday June 4th at St. James Catholic Church 905 Park Ave. Falls Church, VA 22046 burial will follow at National Memorial Park.
