It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Rosalie Clara Kniceley Bern, who died on October 14, 2023, at the age of 85, surrounded by her loving family. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Rosalie was born in Arlington, VA on April 18, 1938, the fifth child of the late Guy Lewis and Evelyn Mae Dreifus Kniceley. She resided in Northern Virginia the majority of her life. She retired from the Federal Government in 2003, as Executive Assistant, Office of the Assistant Attorney General, Civil Division, U.S. Department of Justice with the admiration and respect of her colleagues. This stylish lady loved to dance and listen to music. She was passionate about her many cherished pets over the years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, William Bernard “Bernie” Bern, and four siblings, Thelma Pickeral, Guy E. “Brod” Kniceley, Juanita Borden and Janet Giampapa. Rosalie is survived by her daughter, Julie Bern Sammons (Mark), son, William Bernard “Bernie” Bern, Jr. (Alma), sister, Joy Morgan, her adoring grandchildren, Lindsay Sammons Rutt (Ben), Matthew Sammons (Shaina) and Bryan Sammons (Kristina), and two beautiful great-granddaughters, Hannah and Evie Rutt. Rosalie is also survived by many nieces and nephews, other family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association at lbda.org. A Celebration of Life will be held privately by the family with burial to follow at National Memorial Park in Falls Church, VA.
