Marvin E. Silverman passed away at age 89 on September 27, 2020 in Gaithersburg, MD.
He was born in Springfield, Massachusetts December 21, 1930 and grew up
in the small town of Westfield, MA living near extended family members.
He met his kindred spirit, Elaine Burd at a party in the early 1950’s. He married his beloved Elaine and shared 56 wonderful years together.
In 1952 Marv served in the army, 112th Infantry Regiment 28th Infantry Division APO 111. He was stationed in Germany during the Korean War and received the Army Occupation and National Defense Service Medals.
Through the GI bill, Marv graduated from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in 1958. His career as a registered Pharmacist began working 2 to 3 jobs in independent drug stores and a hospital pharmacy in Boston. His Uncle Lou Silverman encouraged him to interview in the Washington, DC area, and was hired by Higger’s Drugs in Washington, DC, NW. He worked there from 1965 to 1995.
He relocated the family to Silver Spring, MD. Marv worked long hours at Higger’s, but always made time for the family to go on day trips and take annual vacations by exploring this beautiful country. To maintain strong family ties, Marv planned out of state visits to see his parents and other family members on a regular basis.
Marv had many hobbies and interests. Some examples are home improvement projects, photography, travel, gardening, spending time with family and friends, pets, ballroom dancing and more.
Marv is preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Silverman & Brother, Allen Silverman. He is survived by his sister, Pearl Kaplan, children Marla Giganti, Lisa Clerman, Barry (Theresa) Silverman, Grandchildren Kirstin, Katelyn, David and Debra.
