William Lindahl Brennan, Sr., 77, of Herndon, Virginia, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2024, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous year-long battle with cancer. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
Born on October 23, 1946, in Waterbury, Connecticut, to Althea (Oemcke) and William Howard Brennan, Bill was the eldest of seven children. While living in Marcellus, New York, he met and married Mary Lou Mazzeo Brennan, his devoted wife of 57 years.
Bill served as a six-year Army Reservist during the Vietnam War while embarking on his lifelong career in retail. Known for his extraordinary work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit, he was a role model of "hard work" to many. Following in his father's footsteps, Bill was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus and The Sons of Italy. A loyal member of the Democratic Party, he loved his country and eagerly engaged in debates about politics, policy, and current events.
An avid historian, Bill was particularly fascinated by the Civil War and enjoyed studying various foreign countries. He was a voracious reader and an enthusiastic gardener, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his cherished grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his wife, Mary Lou; his children, William (Tracy) and Christine (Justin) Greeves; his beloved grandchildren, Grant, Blake, Farrah, and Shane; his brother Stephen Brennan and sister-in-law Marilyn Brennan; his sisters Althea (Tomas) Avakian and Christine (Gregory) Hicks; sister-in-law Theresa Warter; Josephine (James) Vozga; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Virginia Colvin, Elizabeth Norman, and Mary Alice Brennan; his brother-in-law Edward Norman; his father and mother-in-law Ralph and Eufemia Mazzeo; and his brother-in-law Frederick Warter.
Calling hours will be held at The Demaine Fairfax Funeral Home, 10565 Main St., Fairfax, Virginia, on Sunday, July 14, 2024, from 3 PM to 6 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Herndon, Virginia, on Monday, July 15, 2024, at 11 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society in Bill's memory.
