AUX SOINS DE
Demaine Funeral Home – Fairfax
Charles Martin McMaster Honour III, (“Laddy”), died December 31, 2022 following a month-long illness. Charles was born June 21, 1951 at Ft. Buchanan, San Juan, Puerto Rico. He was proud of being an “Army Brat” and lived at numerous Army bases before his family settled in Springfield, Virginia when his father was stationed at the Pentagon. Charles was a 1970 graduate of Annandale High School and a 1974 graduate of Old Dominion University in Norfolk. He entered the Army as a lieutenant, completed pilot training, and helicopter certification before being deployed to an air base in Bad Toltz Germany. He married in 1973 and divorced in 1975.
After leaving the Army in 1979, Charles settled in Springfield. He expanded his interest in the military to include history and politics, worked in Northern Virginia and Washington D.C., and continued long standing friendships. He was known to visit you if you were sick or help with a house project. He was always sympathetic to the underdog, and known for giving kind words, gifts, or money to homeless people he met. Unusual for a pilot, he preferred walking and hiking over driving. He served as a volunteer in a military modeling group as an extension of his interests.
Charles is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Honour; his brother, Robert Honour; and beloved nieces and nephew: Leah Hitchings, Jane Hitchings, Eric Honour, and Megan Honour.
In lieu of flowers, donations to any Veterans service non-profit are appreciated. A private memorial for the family will be held at Yosemite, CA.
