Carmel Yarberry Keller (Nee: Carmel “Faye” Shim)was born in Kingston, Jamaica on December 8, 1931 to Clarence and Doris (Young) Shim. She passed from this world into heaven on July 7, 2024. Carmel was a follower of Jesus Christ. She married Lee M. Yarberry on Dec. 13th, 1964. They traveled the world with the her beloved son, Michael Yarberry (deceased). She loved her global adventures; living in exotic places like Asmara, Ethiopia and Honolulu, HI. She had strong administrative skills and worked as legal secretary. Later in her career, she enjoyed working as a real estate agent. Her lifelong passions were playing classical and contemporary piano (still playing into her 90’s). She loved gardening and reading. She enjoyed harvesting, eating and talking about fruit of all kinds. She was an avid Scrabble player, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune fan. She loved worshipping in church every Sunday and when she couldn’t attend in person would worship online. Perhaps her greatest personal joy was spending time with her entire family at reunions, smaller gatherings, or with daughter, Lian, and son, Milton, and all of her grandchildren. She is survived by her siblings: Eileen (Shim) Niebisch and Lance Shim. Her children Milton Yarberry, partner Shelly Calder and Lian (Yarberry) Hollenbeck, husband Don Hollenbeck, Jr., daughter-in-laws Nandita D'Souza (Yarberry) and Ciara McMahon. Grandchildren include; Devan and Caden Yarberry, Ethan and Kieran Yarberry, and Lia, Donald III “Trace” and Isabelle Hollenbeck. Donations can be made in her name to support the work at St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. A Celebration of her life will be held at Fairfax Church in Fairfax, Virginia on August 12th at 4:15pm.
