Velma Louise Barnabee, 86, of Evansville, IN passed away Saturday, June 29, 2024. She was born in Shawneetown, IL on June 1, 1938, to the late Floyd and Imogen Hardin.
Velma was married to the love of her life, Chet for 39 years. They loved dancing together and spending time with their families. They raised one son together, Randall Earl, which brought a lot of joy to her life. Velma was a dedicated Jehovah’s Witness for 66 years. She loved talking about her God Jehovah and sharing her hope for the future with others. She truly enjoyed her association with her brothers and sisters at the Kingdom Hall. She was a hard worker throughout her life, sometimes working two jobs. She also had a love of music and writing songs and poetry.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Earl Barnabee; parents; siblings, Joyce Boasso and Melvin Hardin.
Velma is survived by her son, Randall and wife, Melody Barnabee; grandchildren, Dustin and Amy Barnabee, Trevor and Jayme Barnabee and Gabriella and Kanan Free; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Fayetta Fulkerson and Loretta Simpson; brothers, Floyd and wife, Janice Hardin and Bob and wife, Kim Hardin.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue, with burial in Park Lawn Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
