Myrna Louise Ours Thompson, 83, of Evansville went to be with the Lord on Wednesday June 26, 2024. She was born in Evansville, IN on May 24, 1941. Myrna met the love of her life when she was 15 they married in 1957 and were together for 61 years until Don’s death in 2018. She devoted her life to her family and children. They raised 4 children but their house was where the friends came to hang out. Myrna went back to school when the kids were older and graduated from Vincennes University with an Associate’s Degree. Myrna joined the Lions Club in 1997. She was a Screener for the Kids Sight Vision Program and Director of Camp Friendship. Her and Don hosted between 60-70 exchange students from overseas for 6-8 weeks at a time. When the November 6th tornado hit she was the Lions District Governor, as soon as it hit she started calling Lions International and had $20,000 to distribute to the people affected by the tornado that afternoon. Myrna was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon “Dick” Ours and Margaret “Myrt” Hoffman Ours.; husband, Donald Ray Thompson; son-in-law, Joe G. Barning; granddaughters, Jennifer Marie “Jenny Lynn” Thompson, Joanna Mercy Moshos; brother, Lloyd Ours. She is survived by her children, Roberta “Robin” Carter (Jeff) of Mt. Vernon, IN, Vernon Thompson “ Joanie” of Evansville, IN, Cheryl Barning of Evansville, IN, Michael McDonald (Russel) of Lyons, IN; brother, Lowell Ours (Linda); sisters, Mary Helen Hotz, Barbara Ours (Ed) all from Elberfeld, IN; 10 great grandchildren and many great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff of Heritage Hospice and Envive of Evansville. Burial will be held on Sunday, July 14, 2024 at Sussot Cemetery in Elberfeld, IN at 12:15 p.m. with a Celebration of Life to follow at the Elberfeld American Legion, with a meal from 1:00-4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lions Cancer Control Fund of Indiana 8780 Purdue Rd Suite #10, Indianapolis, IN 46268.
