Mary Bailey Miller, 87, of Evansville, passed away on Wednesday, August 4, 2010, surrounded by family at Deaconess Gateway Hospital.
Mary was born in Evansville to the late John and Bessie (Barnes) Stinchfield on February 26, 1923. She graduated from Reitz High School in 1941, and was a member of St. James West United Methodist Church.
During World War II Mary worked in the Evansville Shipyard, but spent most of her professional life at Sears, where she worked as the secretary to the store’s manager until her retirement.
Mary was preceded in death by two husbands, Walter E. “Dutch” Bailey, Sr. and Rev. Ed Miller; her son, Walter E. “Gene” Bailey, Jr.; and her brother, John Wesley Stinchfield.
She is survived by her son, John “Randy” Bailey (Gayle) of Evansville; her sister, Dorothy Poehlein of Evansville; her grandchildren, Brian Bailey (Jean), Blake Bailey (Kelly), Andrea Smith (Rodney), and Chase Bailey (Heather), all of Evansville; her great-grandchildren, Morgan Bailey, Caden Bailey, Kirsten Bailey, and Jacob Smith all of Evansville; her daughter-in-law, Lynn Bailey of Evansville; a daughter by marriage, Donna Parsons (Fred) of Mt. Vernon, IN; a son by marriage, Ed Miller, Jr. (Marsha) of Tippecanoe, IN; niece, Donna Schmidt and great-nephew, Luther Schmidt who were especially close to her; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services will be 11:00 AM Monday, August 9, 2010, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Rev. Gene Backes and Rev. Gary Brunson with burial at Alexander Memorial Park. Friends and loved ones may visit Sunday from 12:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
