Larry Hughes, 78, passed away peacefully at his home on May 18, 2018, from issues related to long-term diabetes and heart disease. He was born on September 1, 1939 to the late Louis and Genevieve (Clark) Hughes.
Although Larry attended Bosse High School, he was a life-long Central High School fan and attended sporting events until his health no longer allowed. He received his bachelor’s degree from University of Evansville and his master’s from Indiana University. He taught middle school for over 30 years, at Glenwood, Stringtown, and Evans schools, and continued to serve as a substitute teacher for many years following his retirement. Larry was an avid collector and dealer of fine antiques, along with his partner of 36 years, Roger Chamness.
Larry is survived by his partner, Roger Chamness; daughter, Angela Dawson (Gene); grandchildren, Bryant and Tara Dawson; sister, Shirley Harl (Jim) of St. Louis; brother, Terry Hughes (Shannon); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his former wife, Carol; his sister, Joyce Coleman, her husband John, and their children Judy and Joe.
Visitation will be from 9:00 – 11: 00 a.m. on Monday, June 4 at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue, with a memorial service at 11:00 a.m.
