James "Jim" Courtland Sturgeon

James “Jim” Courtland Sturgeon, 97, of Evansville, passed away Monday, February 20, 2012, at VNA Charlier Hospice Center. He was born April 24, 1914, in Beech Grove, KY. He was a 64 year member of the Sheet Metal Local 20 Union and retired from George Koch & Sons in 1978. He was a WWII Army Veteran and a member of St. Lucas United Church of Christ. He loved to work in his yard and plant a garden, which he did until the spring of 2011. Jim still drove a car and would go to the Carousel Restaurant and Hardee’s to visit with his friends and shopping at Wal-Mart. Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Julia “Judy” Houghland Sturgeon, on January 26, 1994; four brothers; and one sister. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Emma Hood (James); grandchildren, Amy Turnpough (Scott), Jim Hood (Kristin) and Karen Myers (Toby); six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren. Services will be 11:00 AM Friday, February 24, 2012, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Rev. Lynn Martin, with burial in Park Lawn Cemetery.
