Harold “Ray” Raymond Schmahlenberger, 93, of Evansville, IN passed away peacefully at the Linda E. White Hospice House on Monday, February 18, 2024. He was born in Evansville, IN on June 24, 1930 to the late Harold David and Viola (Lockyear) Schmahlenberger.
Ray enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing rummy and solitaire, and gardening. He loved his Dachshunds. Ray served in the Army in the front lines/infantry division during the Korean War. He was a member of the VFW #1114 and the Wounded Warrior Project.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, David Schmahlenberger; son-in-law, Anthony Stevens; and grandson, Shaun Barber.
Ray is survived by his wife of 43 years, Barbara (Koressel) Schmahlenberger; sons, Allen Schmahlenberger (Kim), Tony Schmahlenberger (Kathy); daughter, Brenda Stevens; sons, Frank Schmahlenberger (Helena), Michael Schmahlenberger (Kirby); grandchildren, Chris, Tracey (Jeremy), Mindy (Mark), Amy, Justin (Bethany), Tad, Jason (Laura), Ashley (Chris), Candi (J.R.), David (Jamie), Samantha, McKinsey, Vannah, Waylon, and Liam; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Friday, February 23, 2024 at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois Street, Evansville, IN.
Ray's Prayer Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home and officiated by Father JIm Koressel.
Military honors performed by the Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans Memorial Club and burial will follow at Alexander Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
