Billy R. Tyree, 91, of Evansville, IN passed away Monday, July 15, 2024. He was born in Evansville, IN on June 30, 1933 to the late Elmer Elijah Tyree and Vera Beatrice (Sunn) Tyree.
He grew up on the Westside of Evansville and went to Centennial Grade School and Reitz High School. Billy proudly served in the U.S. Navy alongside his brother Jackson, earning several commendations including the United Nations Service Medal, China Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Korean Service Medal with one star. He retired from Whirlpool Corporation in 1997. Billy was gifted with a singing talent and sang in church and also visited nursing homes sharing his love for music with others. He was a big Colts football fan and his smile was so big it beamed. Billy was a born again Christian and filled with the Holy Ghost.
Billy is survived by his second wife, Martha Tyree; daughter, Julia (Edward) Burlison, four grandchildren, Jacob Phillips, Jennifer Phillips, John (Katelyn) Burlison, and James (Whitney) Burlison; nine great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren; step-children including, Mary Beth Lowe, Christi Weissmann and Michael Bickett; and several step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Vera Tyree; his first wife, Anna (Pagett) Chamberlain; all of his siblings, Elmer Tyree Jr., Phyllis Centers, Jackson Tyree and Robert Tyree; beloved dog, Fritz Berger Tyree; and step daughter, Suzanne Irene (Rennie) Lowe.
Family and friends may visit Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at Alexander North Chapel, 4200 Stringtown Road, Evansville, IN from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the chapel officiated by Pastor Bud Hales. Final resting place will follow services at the Locust Hill Cemetery.
