Richard Carrol Burke

Richard Carrol Burke (Dicky), age 74, of Rixeyville, VA, passed away November 24, 2020 at his residence surrounded by his family after a 3-month battle with cancer (Glioblastoma). Mr. Burke was born October 3, 1946 to Trenton Curry Burke and Margaret Ann Sours Burke. Mr. Burke was a Licensed Electrician and retired from the Department of Mental Health in Northern Virginia. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and served during the Vietnam War. Richard was an active member and deacon of Alum Spring Baptist Church, an avid cyclist, kayaker, and outdoorsman. He was a founding member of the Culpeper Area Mountain Bike Organization (CAMBO) and belonged to paddling clubs to include Coastal Canoeists. Mr. Burke is survived by his wife of 53 years Janice Burke; a son, Richard Burke (Joanna), Rixeyville, VA; grandchildren, Jessica Taylor (Luke), Culpeper, VA; Ashley Burke, Rixeyville, VA; great-grandchild Elliott Taylor; a brother, David Burke (Kwi Sok), Leesburg, VA; and his dog, Charley. He was preceded in death by his parents. A private funeral service will be on Monday, November 30, 2020, in the chapel of Clore-English Funeral Home, 11190 James Monroe Highway, Culpeper, VA with Pastor Ron Young officiating. Due to COVID restrictions of 50 at Clore-English, attendees need to be predetermined. Private interment will follow in Culpeper National Cemetery (new section). If you’d like to be a part of his Celebration of Life, please place your canoe/kayak and/or bicycles on your vehicle and meet in the Clore-English parking lot by 1:30 to be a part of the funeral procession to National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in Mr. Burke’s memory to Friends of the Rappahannock, 3219 Fall Hill Avenue, Fredericksburg, VA 22401 and/or Alum Spring Baptist Church, 11058 Dutch Hollow Road, Culpeper, VA 22701.
