James Henry Jackowski, age 76, of Schererville, IN, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2015 at St. Anthony Hospice, with his loving family at his side. Jim was born October 1, 1938 in East Chicago, Indiana to the late Sigmund and Alice (Wanicki) Jackowski. Left to cherish his memory are: his loving wife of 53 years, Leonna (Wiggins) Jackowski; sons: Jim Jackowski, John (Terrie) Jackowski, Jeff (Michelle) Jackowski, Joe (Becky) Jackowski, and Jerry (Diane) Jackowski; daughters: Lisa (Tim) Simmons, Laura (David) Andrews, Leann (Scott) Parks, and Lynn (Brian) Roth; 21 grandchildren, four great grandchildren; sisters: Ruth Jones, and Bonnie Small, and many nieces and nephews. Jim was a produce manager for National Tea/Eagle Foods for over 30 years. After retirement he was a Black and Decker repairman. He then mostly enjoyed working with his son at Bowman, Barrett & Associates. Mr. Jackowski selflessly served in the United States Army. He was also a long time member and Past Commander and Chaplain for the American Legion of Schererville, Post #485. He was an avid fisherman, loved to tell stories, and was a master tinkerer. Funeral services will be Friday, May 22, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (8178 S. Cline Ave.; Schererville, IN 46375). Visitation will be Thursday, May 21 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with an American Legion memorial service at 7:00 p,m. Burial will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial Contributions may be given towards The American Cancer Association, or The American Legion Post #485 "Raise the Roof" fund.
