Ruth Evlyn Taybos, 80, of Connersville, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2024, at Reid Health and is already dearly missed.
Ruth enjoyed life, cherishing her family and friends. Ruth was born in Connersville to Winvil and Madeline (Garland) Sparks and was a 1962 graduate of Connersville High School. After high school, Ruth became a Registered Nurse, graduating from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing. She worked with autistic children at Larue Carter before embarking on an adventure across Europe when it was still ‘$5 a day,’ enjoying European architecture, art, food, and the companionship of a good friend. Ruth then married and prioritized her family and her former husband George’s Naval career. Caring for her family became Ruth’s focus, and she poured into them her adventurous spirit, love for travel, creativity, and artistic flair as well as countless gourmet recipes.
In anticipation of retirement, Ruth moved back to Connersville after years of living in Hawaii and near other Naval bases. She returned to her nursing roots and worked at the Dunn Center until her retirement. Once retired, Ruth loved visiting with her daughters and grandchildren, enjoying life with life-long friends, and returning to Hawaii for getaways. Hawaii was Ruth’s special place.
Ruth enjoyed traveling, reading, and gourmet food. She treasured her friends and the good times they had together. She served on the Connersville High School Reunion Committee for her class and volunteered at the Fayette County Public Library. Ruth worshipped with multiple Christian congregations and was a Connersville High School Mentor. She also helped with the Elementary School Scrabble Club. Most of all, Ruth cherished her friends, both lifelong and newfound.
She is survived by her daughters; Jennifer McClendon and her husband Martin of Racine, Wisconsin and Sarah Halloran and her husband Jonathan of Chicago, Illinois; and her five grandchildren, Arabella and Horatio McClendon, Jonah, Henry and Phoebe Halloran; her sister, Carol Sparks Drake and her husband Tom of Whitestown, Indiana; cousin, Robert Harrison of Florence, Kentucky; and many lifelong friends.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to: The Fayette County Friends of the Library @ 828 N Grand Ave, Connersville, IN 47331
Memorial visitation for Ruth Evlyn Taybos will be 2:00 p.m.– 4:00 p.m., Friday, November 29, 2024, with a time of sharing at 4:00pm, at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, 920 N. Central Ave., Connersville Indiana.
