John Francis Fischer, age 82 and born October 14, 1939. Known as Jack to most of his family and friends, passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2022. Married to Susan M. Fischer (Murray) for 61 years, he had been retired for some time. After living in Bradenton, Florida, Silver Lake Michigan, and Toledo, Ohio, he resided in Upper Arlington, Ohio.
He spent much of his childhood in Flint, Michigan and Toledo, Ohio, ultimately graduating from DeVilbiss High School in Toledo as part of the class of 1957.
Jack was a veteran of the United States Army where he served in the active military driving a tank as part of the renowned Black Horse Battalion. He was stationed in Germany at the time of significant tension, conflict with the Soviet Union and threatening actions around the protection of West Berlin by the United States. He told the story of his tank rolling on to a West German highway as tensions rose, ultimately the Soviet Union backed down and relative calm returned to the post-war borders. He also served as a member of the Military Police as part of his time in the reserves. He was proud of his service and of his country, its flag and national anthem.
Over the course of his life, while raising his family, he served as a Scout Master, on St. Catherine of Siena Parish Council, as a CYO basketball coach, in the St. Francis de Sales High School Band Boosters, in the Knights of the Roundtable, an athletic boosters association at St. Francis, and while in Florida, as president of the Meadowcroft South Condo Association Board of Directors. When given the chance to serve his community, he did whatever he could.
In the year 2000 Jack retired from Jeep, located in Toledo, Ohio, and now part of the Chrysler Corporation. He worked at the Toledo production facility where he was in charge of non-production stores. Prior to working at Jeep, he was employed at City Machine and Tool, also in Toledo.
In retirement he continued his love of golf, cruises with his partner and wife Sue, and cheering on The Ohio State Buckeyes. He had traveled to the Panama Canal, Germany, Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, and many parts of the Caribbean.
He is survived by his loving wife Susan M. Fischer (Murray). Also, by his children John M. Fischer and Suzanne Amy Fischer (Siehl); Joseph M. Fischer and Sharon L. Fischer (Rininger); Debra J. Fischer; Thomas J. Fischer and Lora J. Fischer (Hyde). Seven grandchildren, and his brother, Frank H. Fischer II., of Ellisville, Missouri.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Francis H. Fischer and Helen I. (St. John); brothers Robert, Fredrick, James, and finally, Robert and Esther St. John, his Uncle and Aunt.
