Vilma O’Neil, OCDS, 85, of Columbus, IN, surrounded by her family, passed away peacefully, on January 13, 2024.
Born on September 21, 1938, Vilma was the daughter of Julia and Joseph Vargo. She attended St. Mary’s High School in Lorain, Ohio, where she met her husband of 64 years.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Dennis O’Neil; son Dennis O’Neil II (Trina); Daughters Erin and Leslie O’Neil; Grandchildren Julia Harvey (Ryan) and Zachary Snow; Great Grandson Oliver Harvey. She is also survived by her brother Edward Vargo; niece Peggy Boyd; nephew Raymond Vargo, and her adopted family, Dwayne and Meka Layfield, and their daughter, Brittanie.
Vilma was a devoted member of the Discalced Carmelite Secular Order (OCDS) for many years, first joining when she lived in Florida. Upon moving back to Indiana, she became a part of the Indianapolis Community of the Resurrection, OCDS. Her chosen name was Wilhelmina of the Most Holy Trinity.
Visitation will be held at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, at 10am, on January 23, 2024. The Funeral Mass will follow at 11am. Friends and Family are welcomed to attend. A private Internment will be done at a later date.
