Carol “Lynn” Bigley, 72, of Columbus, died at 7 a.m. Friday, September 23, 2011 at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Gary Schaar and the Rev. Brian Campbell officiating.
Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hathaway-Myers Chapel on Pearl Street and from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.
A private Inurnment will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Columbus Indiana Architectural Archives.
She married Thomas C. Bigley Jr., June 4, 1960 in Columbus. He survives.
She is also survived by a son, David R. (Jennifer) Bigley of Indianapolis; a daughter, Susan E. Bigley of Columbus; a brother, Douglas (Martha) Holmes of Covington, Louisiana; and grandchildren, Mia, Cooper, Kirby and Norah Bigley, all of Indianapolis.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She was born in Columbus, January 20, 1939, the daughter of Herbert A. and Isabelle Hagaman Holmes.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church and was The Republic’s Woman of the Year in 2009. She was also Bartholomew County Senior Citizen of the Year in 2009. Lynn created and developed the Columbus Indiana Architectural Archives and served as its president; she was also a three-term Columbus City Councilwoman. She was the former president of the Columbus Senior Center Board and Ecumenical Assembly. Lynn was also a tour guide and former board member of the Columbus Visitor’s Center. She and her husband established the fund for Leadership Bartholomew County. She was a former State Chairman for the League of Women Voters and was active and held leadership roles in Columbus Enterprise Development Center, the American Cancer Society, Foundation for Youth, IUPUC French Exchange Program and Columbus Human Rights Commission. She was also a volunteer at Love Chapel, Food Bank and was a driver for Columbus Senior Center Meals on Wheels program. Lynn was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and Meadowlark Garden Club and was a world traveler, hiker and golfer; she was also a former Women’s Golf Champion at Harrison Lake Country Club.
