Nécrologie de James “Jimmy” Robertson Mason Jr.
James “Jimmy” Robertson Mason, Jr., of Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina, died of this life unexpectedly on December 31, 2023 at Lexington Medical Center. His cousin and legal guardian Lee Mason Gregory and her husband Bill were by his side. The only child of the late Mary Louise Gaillard and Lieutenant Colonel James R. Mason, Jimmy was born on December 1, 1957 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Jimmy lived on numerous military bases where he loved saluting the soldiers in the military parades. After Jimmy's dad retired from the military in the mid 1960's, his family returned to Columbia. Jimmy resided with his parents until he was placed in a Babcock Center group home. Supported by steadfast and compassionate Babcock Center caregivers, Jimmy adjusted to the group home environment. In 2001, Jimmy was moved to Terrace Way in Batesburg-Leesville where he resided until his death. That day Jimmy hit the jackpot! His caretakers were angels living among us! Even though Lee had the opportunity to move him closer to her, she chose not to do so due to his devoted and loving caregivers. Despite being born mentally challenged, his parents insured Jimmy had a love for Christ, a love for his country and a love for his extended family. His parents surrounded their cherished Jimmy with family and friends, especially on holidays. Jimmy especially loved The Andy Griffith Show, The Gomer Pyle Show, The Pledge of Allegiance, Jesus Loves Me, Hess trucks, Santa Claus, hamburgers, his grandmother Chris, his Uncle Dick, and his cousin Lee. Jimmy was predeceased by his parents, grandparents, several aunts and uncles and his cousin Patsy Mason Fabian. One can imagine the joyous reunion in heaven Jimmy is having with his loved ones. He will be missed by his caretakers and by Lee and her family. His mother impressed upon Jimmy "Lee will always take care of you", and whenever he was with her he constantly asked her "You take care of me, Lee?" or "You love me, Lee?". "What a blessing Jimmy was to everyone who knew him!" Dunbar Funeral Home on Devine is assisting the family. The burial will be family only. If one wishes to remember Jimmy with a memorial, Jimmy's family asked consideration be given to the Epworth Children's Home, Trenholm Road United Methodist Church (music ministry) or the charity of one's choice.
