Robert “Bob” Brooks Dinwiddie, 81, of Columbia, Missouri passed away on Monday, February 22, 2016 at Boone Hospital Center.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 26, 2016 at 3:00 pm at Memorial Funeral Home followed by a reception.
Bob was born in Chicago, IL on February 11, 1935 the son of Robert and Mable (Brooks) Dinwiddie who preceded him in death. On June 15th, 1957, he married Glenda Kay Denham who preceded him in death in 2008. He graduated from Hickman High School in 1953 and attended University of Missouri. He served in the US Air Force from 1956-1960. He was the owner of three Nursing Homes in Northern Illinois in the 1970-80’s. He then returned to Columbia, MO, where he served as VP for Tom Atkins at Atkins Chemical. He spent the remainder of his working days at Boone Quarries for Harold “Bud” Johnson until his retirement. He enjoyed world traveling, boating, fishing and spending time at his home at the Lake of the Ozarks with family, friends and his black labs. Bob had an appreciation for restoring and driving classic cars and in his earlier years piloting his Cessna plane.
He is survived by two sons, Robert Dinwiddie Jr. of Alaska and David (Kelly) Dinwiddie of Columbia, MO and three grandchildren, who were the apples of his eye, Claire, Cole and Carson Dinwiddie of Columbia, MO. Robert is also survived by sister-in-law Jane Preston Peterson, brother-in-law Dick Peterson, nephew John and wife Erica Peterson and son Finn of Minnesota; nieces Katherine and husband David Ferguson, of Los Angeles, and Maren Peterson of Boston.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to Central Missouri Humane Society or American Kidney Foundation c/o Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 West, Columbia, MO 65202.
