William Oscar Coffin, 72, born March 25, 1950 in Durham NC, passed away April 19, 2022, in Charlottesville, VA. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin Wilson Coffin and Viola Faucette Coffin, his brother Nathaniel Wilson Coffin, and his son Wilson Oscar Coffin. He is survived by his loving wife Isabel DeHoff Coffin; their daughters Dr. Julia Faucette Taylor (Robert James Taylor) of Charlottesville, VA; Joanne Elise Coffin Isenhour (Brandon Drew Isenhour) Charlotte, NC; grandchildren Ryleigh Brennan Taylor, Brogan Coffin Taylor, Emma Isabella Isenhour; his sister Vidy Coffin Johnson; nephew James Hunt Johnson (Jessica Johnson); niece Cordelia (Delia) Johnson Barrick (Bryan Barrick) . William graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 1972, received a JD in Law from UNC Chapel Hill Law School in 1975 and was on the Law Review. He met the love of his life Isabel while establishing his career as an attorney, and they celebrated 41 years of marriage. William was one of the most generous, kind and loyal souls found on this earth. He would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need without concern for himself. Material goods meant little to him; showing compassion and care for others was his true passion. He was always ready to entertain company with a meal a story or a joke. His nature was truly jovial with a kind spirit. He was beloved by his wife, children, sons-in-law, grandchildren and his large extended family. He was a vital part of his community. He will be greatly missed. A celebration of William’s life will be held at Duke Memorial United Methodist Church in Durham, NC, Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Jennifer Asbill officiating.
