Jo Ann (Peters) Hammer, 70, of Charlottesville went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at her residence.
Jo Ann was born May 3, 1949 to the late Athey C. Peters and the late Dorothy Farrish Peters and raised in Scottsville, VA. She was a member of Scottsville Baptist Church. She began her career in real estate development in the early 1970’s with Lake Monticello but was involved in various other projects over the years. Her creativity and talent for interior design was showcased in many resort development projects. Her artistic talents for design was not limited to just professional endeavors but was also evident in her home. Her love of flowers and gardening extended her beautiful touch to the outdoors.
However, out of all of her accomplishments both professional and personal, she found her greatest joy and fulfillment in her family, especially her grandchildren.
Jo Ann is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Dice Hammer. Their son Trevor Cyrus Dice Hammer, grandson Trevor Cyrus Dice Hammer Jr. granddaughter Chloe Noel Hammer all of Charlottesville Virginia. Dice’s daughters, Sheryl Hammer Kesterson her husband Dr. Gregg D. Kesterson, their sons Hunter Kesterson and Hayden Kesterson of Knoxville, Tennessee and Dice’s youngest Daughter Teresa Hammer Kasemeyer her husband Scott F. Kasemeyer, their sons Ryan Kasemeyer and Griffin Kasemeyer of Houston Texas.
She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents Jo Ann is preceded in death by her siblings, Athey C. Peters, Jr., Rosemary Peters, Donald W. Peters, Wanda P. Basham and Larry R. Peters.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at Teague Funeral Home, 2260 Ivy Road, Charlottesville.
Funeral service will be held 11am on Friday, June 21, 2019 at Teague Funeral Home with Pastor Josh Shifflett officiating.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Hospice of the Piedmont or the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery designated for head and neck surgery research and education.
The family would like to thank Dr. Paul Levine, Dr. Patrick Dhillon and Dr. Spencer Payne for their exceptional care over the years.
