Douglas Wayne Pleasants, 78, of Charlottesville, Virginia went to his heavenly home on September 7, 2024.
Wayne was born in Albemarle County on September 5, 1946 to the late Marcus Robert Bruce and Sadie Ida Pleasants.
In addition to his parents Wayne was preceded in death by his best friend and brother, Oscar Jackson "Jack" Pleasants.
Wayne grew up on the grounds of Farmington Country Club and went on to dedicate 55 years of his life working for Farmington Country Club as a groundskeeper and greens keeper on the beautiful golf course Wayne loved.
Wayne was an honorable man with a quiet spirit that loved his family and friends. Wayne enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Wayne also enjoyed watching Westerns on TV. Wayne's favorite actor was John Wayne. Wayne especially loved Kenny Rogers in the Western films The Gambler.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 52 years Mary Maupin Pleasants.
Left to cherish his memory is one son Jonathan Wayne "John" Pleasants, s brother Robert Pleasants and his wife Patricia of Crozet, VA, his sisters in law Gladie Pleasants of Scottsville, VA, Brenda (Orlando) Watkins of Esmont, VA and Betty Campbell of North Garden, VA, one brother in law Danny S. (Lorrie) Maupin of Callao, VA, Wayne also leaves to cherish his memory a very special niece, Lisa Pleasants Minter and her husband, Jimmy of Charlottesville, VA.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, September 12, 2024 at 11:30AM at Holly Memorial Gardens, 3251 Seminole Trail Charlottesville, VA 22911 with Pastor Danny S. Maupin officiating.
