DANIEL CLIFFORD BOWMAN of Charlottesville, Virginia, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2024, at 80 years of age. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen (Gill) Bowman, only 170 days prior, his mother, Virginia (Wells) Bowman, and father, Clifford Bowman of Bloomington, Minnesota. Daniel is survived by his 3 children, Susan Harms (Jake) of Perrysburg, Ohio, William Bowman (Mindy) of Vienna, Virginia, and Geoffrey Kamizuru-Bowman (Mayuko) of Tokyo Japan, 7 grandchildren, Nick, Alex, Kate, Lucy, Ben, Lily and Leo, his brother Larry Bowman of Storrs, Connecticut, sister Deborah Keenan of St. Paul, Minnesota, and 7 nieces and nephews.
Daniel graduated with a degree in Anthropology from the University of Minnesota, having also attended Knox College. He received his master's degree at the University of Chicago. He spent many years doing archeological digs, eventually teaching at Hamlin University where he met Kathleen, and working for the Bureau of Land Management. Finally, he ran his own consulting business, Bowman Environmental Services, during which time he published a children's book, Living in Your Watershed.
A devoted lover of nature and the environment, Daniel spent his life passionately committed to it both professionally and personally. He loved to read, to hike and take walks, to listen to birds, to catch toads with his grandchildren, and to enjoy the wonders the natural world has to offer. He was an excellent conversationalist and storyteller. For his 80th birthday, his family gave him a park bench at Ivy Creek in Charlottesville, Virginia: "In honor of Daniel Bowman, who taught 3 children and 7 grandchildren to treasure the natural world". Daniel was a simple man with a sense of humor and a twinkle in his eye. He is loved and missed deeply, but surely his spirit is still around us in nature every day as he is no doubt happily frolicking again, reunited with the love of his life.
