Maxine Marie Alfrey

Maxine was born to Walter and Olive (Nash) Lashley in Washington, Indiana, on June 17, 1924. She moved in her teens to Indianapolis. There she met Roy Alfrey, the love of her life, and was married to him for 73 years. She worked at various jobs during WWII while Roy was serving in the Army in Europe. After the war they eventually settled in Beech Grove, Indiana, and raised 3 daughters. Maxine was an active member of Victory Memorial Methodist Church for many years. She was very proud to be an employee of Merchants National Bank and retired as an Assistant Manager. She loved singing in the church choir, writing poetry, sewing for her daughters, playing cards with lifelong friends, and camping. Maxine and Roy were blessed to spend 20 winters in Florida where their oldest daughter lived. Maxine lived a full, happy, spiritual, and healthy life and passed away peacefully at the age of 99 surrounded by her loving daughters. She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, her parents, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, and a granddaughter. She is survived by her 3 daughters: Linda (Bill) Lyon, Debbie Everman (Ron Dougherty), and Vicki (Mick) Johnson; 2 brothers: Roy (Vicki) Lashley and Carl Lashley; 1 sister: Susie Williams; 10 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation for Maxine will be held Tuesday, September 26, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Little & Sons Funeral Home, 1301 Main St, Beech Grove, Indiana 46107. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at 1:00 PM, 1301 Main St, Beech Grove, Indiana 46107. A burial will occur Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at Orchard Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Maxine would appreciate donations to the Make-A-Wish Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
