Mark Curtis DeLoatch, age 54, of Martinsville, died Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at the Danville Regional Medical Center.
He was born in California, February 13, 1960, a son of the late Mark Lee DeLoatch and Geneva White DeLoatch. He was a member of St. Paul Pentecostal Holiness Church, Bassett, where he served as a Sunday school teacher and a Deacon.
Mark served in the U. S. Marine Corps from December, 1979 to January, 1984 and received a Good Conduct Medal. He has served in the Virginia Army National Guard since April of 1984, served in Operation Noble Eagle at the Aberdeen Proving Ground in MD from 2002-2003, and was deployed to Iraq from 2004-2005, for Operation Enduring Freedom. His Army awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, 5 Achievement Medals and 3 Good Conduct Medals. His state National Guard awards include a VA Bronze Star Medal and a VA Commendation Medal. His 33 years of military service include 16 years of active duty service.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Phyllis Pannell DeLoatch of the home, four daughters, Myrietta Dean of Laveen, AZ, Crystal Halback of Columbia, SC, Tiffany DeLoatch of Martinsville, Beverly Monique DeLoatch of Clarksville, a sister, Pamela Johnson of Portsmouth, and two grandchildren, Katelyn Harrison and Dan Halback III.
The funeral service will be held at 1 P.M. Saturday, April 19, 2014, at the Greater International Pentecostal Holiness Church at 980 Carver Rd., Martinsville with Bishop MacDaniel Preston officiating. Interment with full military rites provided by the Virginia Army National Guard will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens. The wake will be from 12 noon to 1 P.M. prior to the service. Collins Funeral Home, Bassett is serving the DeLoatch family.
