Stanley Lanier Watson, age 66, of Beaverdam, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2024. He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Simms; father, Seavy Watson; step-father, Mott Simms; brother, Wayne S. Watson; and former spouse, Betty Jones Watson. Stanley is survived by his son, Bradley Watson (Robin Patillo); two nieces, Amber Kelley Watson and Crystal Leigh Watson; sister-in-law, Donna T. Watson; two very special friends, Cindy and Michael Goodman; and numerous other family and friends. Stanley was born in Washington D.C. on February 16, 1958. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, loyalty, and a love for music and dogs. He spent many years working as a mechanic, honing his skills at Case Power & Equipment and Tilley’s, among other places. His dedication and commitment to his work earned him a safety award for completing a lift truck safety course. Stanley was always known for his reliability, whether on the job or among friends, or as a caregiver for his parents when they became ill. He took pride in helping others, no matter the task. He was the best friend anyone could have. Outside of work, Stanley’s true passions came to life through music and the outdoors. He enjoyed playing with the Lone Star Bandit Band and often jammed with friends in other bands. Music was a constant joy in his life, as was fishing and spending time by the river. Stanley’s bond with his dogs, Dixie and Justice, was unbreakable. Justice was his constant companion, often accompanying him to work. Whether strumming his guitar or spending time with his beloved dogs, Stanley lived a life full of love, loyalty, and friendship. A memorial service for Stanley will be held Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at 1pm at Nelsen Funeral Home Reid Chapel, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, VA 23005.
