Mondew Fain

FAIN, Mondew, 85, of Ashland, VA went to be with the Lord on July 23, 2021, following a period of declining health. Born August 20, 1935 in Rockingham, N.C., he was preceded in death by his daughter, Denise; his brothers, Irving, Willis, Starley and Clifton; his sisters, Nanny, Gaynell and Elaine; and his parents. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 59 years, Loretta Fain; beloved dear friends Dorothy Gibson (James) of Ashland and Lisa Watson (Robbie) of Mechanicsville; nephews, Todd Fain (Deanna) and Forrest Fain (Debbie); nieces, Amy Ketchi (Kevin) and Vergie May (Herman) and many more nieces and nephews. Mondew worked in the fire protection industry for over 60 years and was employed by VSC Fire & Security for the past 43 years. His knowledge was like no other and he was a great mentor to many. He enjoyed his woodworking projects, gardening and hunting with his friend, Tommy Anderson. He was also known for his famous Christmas fruit cakes. The family would like to thank the home healthcare workers and all of the doctors and nurses who helped make the most of his last year. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 30 at 11 am at Nelsen Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, VA. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at Woodland Cemetery, 11310 Hanover Ave., Ashland, VA. A reception will be held at Hunton Baptist Church, 11660 Greenwood Road, Glen Allen, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Arc of Hanover, (thearcofhanover.org) or Hunton Baptist Church.
