Nécrologie de Lilia Jaramillo Buday
Lilia Jaramillo Buday of Arlington, Virginia passed away on Saturday December 17, 2022 at age 91. Lily was born in the Philippines on August 30, 1931, daughter of the late Antonio Jaramillo and Josefa Canlas Rabaya. Lily came to the United States to attend American University in Washington D.C. and later earned her masters degree from George Washington University. She worked for most of her career with the prestigious law firm, Sidley Austin. Lily balanced her career while raising her two sons, which often involved feeding all of their school friends with her exquisite cooking of Filipino and Hungarian dishes that gained instant popularity in their McLean and North Arlington neighborhoods. Her talent on piano featured an astonishing ability to play virtually anything by ear. Lily loved sharing her gift by playing favorite songs for friends and family who gathered around her on countless occasions and holidays, filling the air with irresistible melodies joined by inspired choruses of joyous and unbridled singing. Lily deeply enjoyed the company of her many friends, be it traveling the world, going to the theater, engaging in book discussions or play readings, and she was always up for good conversation while dining. But one of her most cherished pastimes was playing Mahjong on Sunday afternoons with her sisters. Lily was a warm and wonderful mother, grandmother “Lola”, sister, “Tita”, friend, and well-loved part of the Belvedere Condominium community where she lived the past 35 years. She deeply loved all of her family and friends, while her grandchildren were her absolute pride and joy. She was happiest when surrounded by all of her family. She had a genuine gift for making all around her feel happy and loved. We will all miss her vibrant spirit and beautiful smile. She is survived by her two sons, Michael (Liz) and Les (Emily) Buday; the father of her children, Joseph Buday; six beloved grandchildren: Emily (Shane) Wise, Janelle Buday, Erica Buday, Addison Buday, Jaidyn Buday, and Dexton Buday; siblings, Amelia (Skip) Fink, Aida Mendoza, Tony Jaramillo, and Purita Rainey; and many dearly loved nieces and nephews. Lily is preceded in death by her son, Stephen Buday, and her siblings, Romeo Jaramillo and Violet Rabaya. The viewing will be held on Friday, January 6th at 3:30pm to 6:00pm EDT at Murphy’s Funeral Home located at 4510 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington, VA 22203. A funeral service will be held in her honor on Saturday, January 7th at 12:00pm EDT at Saint Thomas More Catholic Church in Arlington, Virginia. Burial to immediately follow at nearby Columbia Gardens Cemetery, located at 3411 Arlington Boulevard, Arlington, Virginia 22201. In lieu of flowers, the family extends the option to make a charitable donation in Lily's name. Her love of music included encouraging kids to learn to play and appreciate music. A music summer camp scholarship in her name has been set-up for kids at the GRAMMY Museum in Mississippi, the birthplace of American music. Donations are 100% tax deductible and can be made online: Lily Buday - Music Summer Camp Scholarship: https://www.grammymuseumms.org/support/donate
