Nécrologie de Freddie Mae Wilson
Freddie Mae Wilson passed away peacefully on February 28, 2024, at Virginia Hospital Center, in Arlington Va. She was a spry 86 years old. The family is deeply saddened by her sudden passing but know that she is no longer in pain and is in the calming hands of the Lord. Freddie was born on March 4, 1937, in Boothton, Alabama. She was the youngest of three daughters born to Walter and Annie Taylor. Her sisters Elizabeth, and Dorothy were extremely happy to meet their new little sister, just before the family relocated to Birmingham Alabama, a much larger city with opportunities and schools. The three sisters attended Parker High School, with Freddie excelling in English and Reading, character traits she continued throughout her life. In short order the sisters took advantage of the job opportunities in Birmingham with both Freddie and Dorthy both working as elevator operators. In time Freddie met a young infantry soldier, from Wylam Alabama, and before long James Wilson and Freddie Mae Taylor married and in time started a family. James Wilson being an only child requested they have a good-sized family, which was exactly what Freddie wanted too, as she loved family. Freddie’s skills as a planner came in handy as she and James had three boys, Gregory, James, and Jeffery then received PCS orders to Ft. Shafter Hawaii by ship. Freddie easily adapted to the life of a military spouse and took charge of managing the household while overseeing the upbringing of her three boys. Actively involved in the education of her boys both at school and with society. Her sons were courteous, had good manners and routinely used the words, “please, thank you, yes and no Ma ‘am or Sir”. They were a family that knew and showed love. Before long the family grew again with the births of Antoinette, the only girl, followed by Garry and Jonathan. A true full house, but Freddie made it all look easy, as she introduced Greg, James and Jeffery into their roles as big brothers and part-time babysitters. Which included helping to keep the house clean and the walls free of crayon and pencil marks, however, when they did appear, comet and good elbow grease fixed the problem. After a few years the family departed Hawaii by way of a Pan Am and relocated to the U.S. Army Post, Ft Myer Virginia into Tenza Terrace family housing. With the children much older and much more stabilized Freddie began working as a cook at the Ft Myer South Post Dining Hall. Her upbeat personality and kind manner made her an instant celebrity amongst the patrons visiting the dining hall. They all knew that after a hard day. Freddie Wilson had a warm good afternoon or evening greeting for them, along with a welcoming smile. Upon the closure of the South Post facility, Freddie was transferred to the dining hall on main base Ft. Myer. She continued to excel and was promoted to the position as head cook over seeing the cooking, staff management, meal planning and preparation. Freddie handled it all with poise and grace. She enjoyed supporting the military men and women that came through the doors. Aware of the sacrifices of military life she treated everyone with kindness from E-1 to O-10. A dynamic person that treated everyone with respect and kindness and made sure her children did the same. The consummate involved parent, cub scout den leader, active PTA member, community advocate and best Mom in the world. Welcomed newcomers to the community with helpful information, a firm handshake, and a welcoming smile. In the dawning light, she fought her illness challenges with vigor, and strength before succumbing to them. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, a sister Dorothy Hall (Dot) and her children in Winston Salem, North Carolina, She also leaves behind 1 daughter and 5 sons, Antoinette Wilson, Jonathan Wilson, Gary Wilson, and Jeffery Wilson all residing in Arlington Va. James Wilson Jr, (Angela) and Gregory Wilson, (Talene) both residing in Silver Spring Md. Nine grandchildren, Derek Howard, Asheigh Wilson, Corrine Wilson, James Wilson III, Marie Wilson, Andre Wilson, Alexandria Wilson, and Randle Wilson, 5 Great Grand Children, Aniya Wilson, James M. Wilson, and Aaliyah Wilson, Arielle E. Howard and Jeremiah A. Howard. We will always carry your memory in our hearts.
