Nécrologie de Jane Margaret Osborne Provenzano
Jane Margaret Osborne Provenzano, 82, of Woodbridge, VA, passed away on the evening of Saturday, December 4, 2021. Although her death was unexpected, loving family surrounded her until her final moments. Jane was born in the Bronx, NY, and raised in Yonkers, NY. She was the third child (and only daughter) of George T. and Margaret M. (née Culkin) Osborne. She attended Saint Denis School in Yonkers and graduated high school from Elizabeth Seton School in Yonkers, New York. As a girl, Jane loved spending summers at the family vacation home in the Catskill Mountains along the Esopus Creek. She enjoyed horseback riding during her childhood so much that she would carry on a love of horses and equestrian sports throughout her life. However, her most treasured years were her high school years. During this time, she developed her love of fast cars and was famous for her driving prowess. Following high school, Jane worked as a hairdresser and beautician, but mainly as a talented florist in her family’s floral business. She would continue her career as a florist while raising her two daughters and being a homemaker. After her husband, Bob, retired from the New York City Transit Police Department, they moved to South Florida in the late 1980s. She continued to work as a florist in several shops around South Florida over the years, most notably the Boca Raton Resort and Club. Jane and Bob relocated to Northern Virginia in the autumn of 2019 to live closer to their youngest daughter and her family. By her own example, Jane taught those she loved to enjoy the little things in life because she knew that they held the greatest importance, like sharing a meal with family/friends; treating yourself to an ice cream cone or a pedicure; sending cards and gifts to all of her loved ones for every occasion (or sometimes just because); kindness to strangers; decorating the house for every holiday (Christmas being her favorite); gardening and growing her favorite flowers; traveling to see family whenever possible; going out with “the girls”; regular phone calls to keep up with family/friends; and spending every moment she could with her grandchildren. Jane excelled in creative arts, particularly oil painting and ceramics. A Beatles “super fan” and consummate New Yorker, Jane was renowned for her fashion sense and trademark red hairdo. She was proud of her Irish heritage and always dreamed of visiting the Emerald Isle. She loved modern technology and was adept at using the latest electronics. Her favorite places included New York City, the Hudson Valley, and the Catskill Mountains. She had a particular fondness for the New York Botanical Gardens in the Bronx; Old Town Alexandria, VA; Historic Occoquan, VA; and George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens. Jane leaves all who knew and loved her with an incredible legacy of love. Jane was preceded in death by her father, George Truman Osborne (1973); her mother, Margaret Magdalene Culkin (1974); her stepdaughter, Erica Camille Provenzano (1985); her brothers, George Thomas Osborne (2007) and Richard Charles Osborne (2017); and her husband, Robert Anthony Provenzano (2020). Jane is survived by her children: Christine, Janine (James), and stepson Mark; her grandchildren, Madeline, Hadley, Luke, Justin, and Julia; her brother Daniel M. Osborne (Frances, née Bookstaver); sister-in-law Sophie Osborne (née Doring), as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces, and great-grandnephews. The family held a private viewing on December 12, 2021. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jane Margaret Osborne Provenzano’s name are encouraged to one of her favorite causes: Catholic Charities, the Sisters of Charity of New York, the Little Sisters of the Poor, the American Heart Association, the American Lung Association, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Wounded Warrior Project, or a local animal rescue. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a funeral mass and burial will be held in New York on a date to be determined later.
