Helen Rice Wolford

Helen Rice Wolford (Age 91) of Alexandria, VA passed away on August 25, 2022. Treasured wife, mother and grandmother, she is survived by children Allison Niedbala (Tom), Laurie Wolford (Raymond Cline) and Richie Wolford (Maureen); grandchildren Emily Wolford and Stephen Wolford, Jake Cline (Mia) and Sam Cline, and Lucy Niedbala (Jonathan Haslow). She was predeceased by husband Richard S. Wolford Captain, USN (Ret.) Born July 2, 1931 in Farmington, UT, she grew up on her parent's farm with her seven brothers and sisters. She attended the University of Utah, graduating with a degree in journalism. She worked at the Salt Lake Tribune newspaper and later did public relations for Paramount Pictures in Utah. As a career navy wife, Helen traveled the world, taking her as far as Japan where she lived for two years. She was expert at making a home for her family wherever the family landed and no matter how short a time. After taking time to raise children, she returned to work at various local advertising firms, rising to become the manager for advertising at George Washington University. She was admired for her ability to connect with people young and old, knowledge of current events honed by reading two newspapers daily, her devotion to family and her fashion sense. Helen enjoyed playing tennis, doing crossword puzzles and taking care of her house and garden. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, September 17 at Demaine Funeral Home, 520 S. Washington Street, Alexandria, VA. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery will be scheduled for a later date.
