À propos

You'll find sweet, sincere people who embody the very meaning of Southern hospitality at Hermitage Funeral Home and Hermitage Memorial Gardens. Together, the funeral home and cemetery are honored to take care of you and your family.

Old Hickory compassion

The funeral and cemetery teams are known for staying in touch with families through every step of the grieving process, even years after a funeral. This is a difficult stage of life for anyone, and we want you to know you're not alone.

Built 5 decades ago, Hermitage Memorial Gardens opened in 1967 to serve the burial needs of Hermitage, Old Hickory, Madison and Mount Juliet communities. The cemetery grounds are close to the historic Hermitage home of President Andrew Jackson.

Later in 1972, Hermitage Funeral Home was built on the property. Working together, these sister locations allow people in Greater Nashville to take care of all their funeral, cremation and burial needs.

A funeral home with southern charm

Exterior at Hermitage Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens Located on Shute Lane, our 2-story funeral home was designed to mimic Andrew Jackson’s antebellum mansion that's located next door. The 12,000-square-foot space has all the technology and conveniences needed for a 21st-century funeral service.

The chapel seats up to 200 people with 2 screens and a modern sound system. Our reception space is available for family and friends to gather during a visitation or after a memorial service.

We also have an on-site staff professional florist to meet all your floral needs.

Creative and caring professionals

The funeral directors at Hermitage Funeral Home represent more than 100 combined years of providing compassionate funeral and cremation services. We believe a memorial service should be as unique as the person it honors, and we pride ourselves on creating perfectly personalized services that capture the essence of you or your loved one.

We take the time to find inspiration—a favorite song, hobby, trademark style, defining philosophy or lifelong passion—for a memorial service filled with thoughtful and meaningful details. There’s no limit to the ways we celebrate life. We are innovative thinkers who will honor a music fan, classic car lover, green thumb, movie buff or any other enthusiast in an uncommon and wonderfully memorable way.

We honor veterans

At Hermitage Funeral Home, we understand the unique needs of America’s veterans and their families. As a Level One Founding Community Partner with We Honor Veterans, our staff is knowledgeable in the benefits available to veterans and their families. With respect, integrity and dignity, we will walk you through the steps of creating a veteran's memorial service that truly honors the life and sacrifice of your loved one.

Always here for you

As members of the Dignity Memorial® network, Hermitage Funeral Home and Hermitage Memorial Gardens give you not only the warm, familiar attention you expect from a locally operated funeral home and cemetery but also the value you deserve by way of the largest network of funeral, burial, cremation and cemetery service providers in North America. We invite you to tour the historic cemetery or the beautiful funeral home.

Hermitage Memorial Gardens

Cemetery grounds at Hermitage Funeral Home & Memorial GardensFounded in 1967, Hermitage Memorial Gardens cemetery has served as a beautiful final resting place for more than 50 years. Though times have changed since our 1st interment, our commitment to the Greater Nashville community has never wavered.

With sweeping green lawns and a pastoral atmosphere, Hermitage Memorial Gardens is the burial site of a number of notable people, including American sports legends and Grand Ole Opry stage stars. However, we take great care in making the cemetery a place for all people to feel welcomed, regardless of social, cultural or religious background.

Rolling hills, beautiful gardens

Conveniently located about 30 minutes from Nashville, our cemetery still feels like its own world. Our grounds span 43 green acres nestled in the hills of Tennessee and offer a range of burial options.

Mausoleum at Hermitage Funeral Home & Memorial GardensWhether you choose traditional in-ground interment or above-ground entombment, we'll have a choice that honors your family or religious tradition. All of our community gardens—which have names like Garden of the Cross and Garden of Everlasting Life—have flush monuments for a park-like atmosphere. (Upright monuments are offered only in the private estates.)

The structure of our cemetery

When you enter the cemetery from Shute Lane, among the first things you will see is our Garden of Memories, the Memories Mausoleums and the Commonwealth Estates, which include private estates and hedge estates. Farther back on the property, an older part of the cemetery overlooks the Hermitage mansion from the top of a hill.

Time for reflection

Our idyllic setting encourages thoughtful reflection anytime, but we set aside a couple of days each year to invite people to join us for special events that honor loved ones and acknowledge the season.

On the 2nd Saturday of December, we host a candlelight service that draws about 2,500 people. Luminary bags light up the night, and the effect is both comforting and captivating. On Easter Sunday, we hold a reverent sunrise service in remembrance of those we have lost and the hope that the future holds.

History

Hermitage Memorial Gardens opened in 1967. The pastoral 43-acre property serves the communities of Hermitage, Old Hickory, Madison and Mount Juliet, and includes famous burials, such as legendary billiards player Minnesota Fats and NASCAR driver Bobby Hamilton.

Hermitage Funeral Home opens in 1972

Signage at Hermitage Funeral Home & Memorial GardensThe 2-story funeral home was built in the style of Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage. The funeral home opened on the cemetery property in 1972 and gives Nashville-area families a comfortable space to plan a memorial or funeral service.

In 2008, we remodeled Hermitage Funeral Home by adding a chapel with flexible seating. This allows us to customize a funeral service with an inviting and adaptable physical setting.

Continuing a legacy

Both the funeral home and cemetery became part of the Dignity Memorial® network in 1977. Together, we've built a reputation for fine service that's earned the trust and respect of friends and neighbors in the Nashville metro area.

Famous burials

Hermitage Memorial Gardens serves as the final resting place for a number of American legends. NASCAR driver Bobby Hamilton was entombed in one of our mausoleums in 2007. Allman Brothers bassist Douglas Allen Woody, who died in 2000, is also entombed at our cemetery. Famed billiards player Minnesota Fats was buried here in 1996—his marker shows his given name, Rudolf W. Wanderone Jr. Numerous musicians are memorialized at Hermitage Memorial Gardens, including George Morgan (father of Lorrie Morgan), Ernest Tubb and Justin Tubb (fixtures at the Grand Ole Opry), and Jay Lee Webb (brother of Loretta Lynn).
