History

Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home has a history that dates back more than 110 years.

Walter and Bertha Wood founded Wood Funeral Home in Chardon, Ohio, in 1909. Three years later, they relocated to Atwater and purchased the Paul Hamilton Funeral Home. Their son, Robert, joined his parents in the family business in 1925.

In 1933, the Wood family opened a funeral home on North Chestnut Street in Ravenna. Three years later, they purchased the former home of Judge I.T. Siddall at the corner of Freedom Street and East Main Street. This is still our location.

Eventually, the Wood family operated locations in Ravenna, Kent, Atwater and Mantua. Jack Wood's stepson, Rob Kortright, took the business over and renamed it Wood-Kortright Funeral Homes.

In 2005, Aaron Borkoski became manager and the funeral home name was changed to Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home. Today, we are part of the Dignity Memorial^® family, creating personalized funerals and memorials and offering benefits that no other provider can.
