Adding personalization to a memorial service could be as simple as creating a memorialization video with photos of your loved one. Or, it could be as elaborate as transforming our chapel into the New York City skyline. Other unique ideas include adding a putting green in the Heritage Room for a golfer and having cars and motorcycles in the building.

Brandon and Tampa Bay are wonderfully diverse and multicultural communities, and we're fortunate to serve people of all backgrounds. Our funeral home team has the knowledge and experience to handle funeral and cremation customs from all faiths and cultures. From Catholic rosary services to traditional Hmong funeral ceremonies, we can conduct any type of memorial service you desire at Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home. For your convenience, we also have team members who speak both Spanish and English.

A tour of our funeral home

Our funeral home was established in 1981 by Joseph and Helen Farr. The building is approximately 20,000 square feet. When you walk into our lobby, you’ll be greeted by one of our team members, who will lead you to the Heritage Room, a versatile chapel that offers a variety of seating options. Adorned with living decor, the large and open room offers traditional seating for 140 guests—or for a more intimate setting, guests can be seated at round tables.

In the Reception Room you can host a catered event before, during or after a ceremony. The Reception Room accommodates approximately 50 guests and has a variety of seating setups.

Hillsboro Memorial Gardens cemetery

Hillsboro Memorial Gardens has served the Brandon, Florida, community for half a century. Founded, developed and designed by the Farr family in 1968, the 45-acre cemetery offers many burial and cremation interment options for families of all faiths, religions and backgrounds. Prior to the Farr family, Hillsboro Memorial Gardens was owned by the county—its first burial took place in 1922.

Unlike many cemeteries in Florida, which are typically landscaped with tropical plants and palm trees, Hillsboro Memorial Gardens has many impressive and stately Florida oak trees. Founders Joseph and Helen Farr did not want Hillsboro to have the typical Florida look, so they also planted the oak trees. Additionally, our 45-acre cemetery has more than a dozen gardens throughout the property. We're also home to multiple families of sandhill cranes, which live here year-round.

Special sections of the memorial park

Certain sections of Hillsboro Memorial Gardens are dedicated to specific groups and religions. We have a veterans section to honor those who have served our country, a Masonic garden for Mason members, a Catholic section dedicated to Catholic churches in the Tampa area, and a Star of David section for the Jewish community.

Scattered throughout the cemetery grounds, you’ll find monument rows—a more affordable option for families who wish for the personalization of an upright monument without the expense of a private estate.

A cremation garden offers a variety of options for cremated remains. This lovely garden features a cremation wall, brick niches, benches and 1- or 2-person upright cremation units.

Personalized private estate gardens

In August 2016, we opened Woodland Square Estates II, a peaceful, lush and quiet section of the cemetery for both traditional burial and cremated remains. A curved sidewalk meanders through the serene garden and the burial private estates are landscaped with Knock Out roses.

For traditional burial, private family estates are available for up to 8 family members. Two-person private estates are also available. To make the private estates more personalized, each estate is hedged. Woodland Square Estates II also features private upright columbaria for cremated remains or a family columbarium that holds 60 people.

Chapel of Palms mausoleum

The focal point of Hillsboro Memorial Gardens is Chapel of Palms mausoleum, which was built in 1994. Chapel of Palms is climate controlled, very private and secure. Only families with keys to the building can access it. Upon entering the glass door entryway, you’ll see cremation niches and 4 elegant chandeliers hanging from the ceiling.

The chapel inside the mausoleum is for entombed casketed bodies and functions as a funeral chapel during inclement weather for committal services.

Nestled around Chapel of Palms are our exterior mausoleums, Sago I and Sago II. They are both faced with granite.
