A.L. Moore-Grimshaw Mortuary Bethany Chapel has provided funeral and cremation services for Maricopa County families since 1906. For more than a century, our commitment to delivering the best funeral home and cremation services possible has remained unchanged. Our commitment to you is service excellence, integrity, respect and a funeral, cremation memorial or life celebration that deeply reflects and honors the life of your loved one.
Personalized funerals and cremation memorials
There are many things to consider when planning a funeral, cremation memorial or celebration of life. At A.L. Moore-Grimshaw Mortuary, we aim to streamline the process as much as possible, guiding families through one of the most personal and challenging stages of life with patience and loving care.
When you first meet with a funeral director, we'll ask questions about your loved one: what they liked to do, what they cherished, how they thought about the world, how they liked to spend time. From there, we'll help you design a service that speaks to the unique life of your loved one, whether a traditional religious funeral, cremation memorial or any upbeat celebration of life.
Tell us if that special person was a sports fan, an outdoors enthusiast, a world traveler, a pet lover or a baker extraordinaire. We take the things that mattered to your loved one and weave them together to create a singular, heartfelt memorial. We're here to help remember the details through cherished traditions, favorite music, photos, flowers, a tribute video and more.
Whatever kind and size of service best suits you or your loved one, our funeral planners will work with you to put together a personalized plan that considers your religion, culture, personal preferences and budget. We even offer catering services.
Cremation in Phoenix
There are many options for cremation in North Phoenix—and they're not all equal. We specialize in cremation services that honor loved ones in personalized ways, and families love our all-inclusive pricing. With expertise in scattering ashes and a friendly team who pays attention to every detail, we provide service that is second to none.
More and more people are choosing cremation over traditional burial, but most aren’t familiar with the many options:
- a cremation without a funeral or memorial service of any kind.
- a funeral with your loved one present, followed by cremation.
- a cremation followed by a scattering, cemetery memorialization or celebration of life—or all three.
If you're interested in cemetery placement, our sister cemeteries, Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery and Resthaven/Carr-Tenney Memorial Gardens in Phoenix, are among the prettiest in the area. They offer scattering, niches and other choices.
And for those who wish for something more momentous, Neptune Memorial Reef is an underwater cremation garden off the coast of Florida. A Celestis Memorial Spaceflight takes ashes into space for a little while or forever.

History
In 1904, Albert Lincoln Moore moved to the Salt River Valley of Tempe, Arizona, where he founded a mortuary business. In 1906, he transferred his home and funeral business to Phoenix.
Albert established A.L. Moore & Sons Mortuary at 333 W. Adams St., in the heart of downtown Phoenix, at the corner of Fourth Avenue. This location soon became known by neighbors as the “corner with the garden.”
Three generations of Moores dedicated to Phoenix
After Albert's retirement, his sons, Albert Lee and Harold, continued their father’s legacy, and A.L. Moore & Sons Mortuary stood out as one of the top funeral homes in the state of Arizona.
Eventually, Albert Lee’s son, Albert Lee Jr., followed in his grandfather's and father's footsteps. He continued to lead and innovate while maintaining the same high level of care set by previous generations. He grew the family funeral home business until his retirement in the 1980s.
The Grimshaw Funeral Home
Also, in the early 1900s, Hal H. Grimshaw was an undertaker who formed the Grimshaw-Action Mortuary Company. In 1927, Hal founded Grimshaw Palms Chapel at 334 W. Monroe St. in Phoenix.
In 1961, Grimshaw Mortuary joined with Bethany Chapel Mortuary, located in north-central Phoenix, under the ownership of Jack Byrd, and operated as a widely respected funeral home for more than 80 years.
Two funeral families become one
In 1997, A.L. Moore & Sons Mortuary and Grimshaw Mortuaries combined more than 180 years of experience to establish A.L. Moore-Grimshaw Mortuary Bethany Chapel.
Located in the north-central corridor, A.L. Moore-Grimshaw Mortuary Bethany Chapel continues to serve the Phoenix metropolitan area with a legacy of commitment to community and service excellence instilled by the Moore and Grimshaw families.
A.L. Moore-Grimshaw Mortuary Bethany Chapel is also proud to be the only Phoenix business to have received the National Funeral Directors Association’s Pursuit of Excellence Award for Number One Funeral Home.
